 In the shadows of the automotive realm, a nefarious practice has taken root: cloning a motor vehicle number plate. This ingenious yet insidious technique is favoured by vehicle crime syndicates worldwide. 

The process is deceptively simple: steal a legitimately owned vehicle's number plate to "mask" another vehicle's true identity. 

Below, we unpack the MacroTag's ability to combat and proactively prevent number plate cloning and the security protocols. 

• The authorised Department of Transport Number plate Manufacturer prints a blank number plate. 
• Each number plate blank has a unique MacroTag linked to its encrypted Digital Certificate!
• The MacroTag remains "unfitted" until fitted to a vehicle.

• The authorised Number Plate Embosser orders the number plate blanks from the Manufacturer / Printer.
• The Number Plate Embosser receives the stock of "blanks".
• The client approaches the embosser for a number plate.
• The embosser validates the eNaTIS documents and  Logs into his system.
• Vehicle details are captured along with the registration number to be embossed on the blank plate.
• The embosser scans the MacroTag and completes the process.
• The digital Certificate is now live with the vehicle details and expiry date.

• A Public validation query can be performed by scanning the unique digital certificate (per number plate) by using a standard mobile device
• Number plates can never be duplicated; only one record can be fitted per blank, even if the blank is duplicated.
• The authorised embosser is the only entity that can fit the blanks under their controlled stock-holding received from the number plate manufacturer.
• The number plate manufacturer/printer and the embosser are approved with very strict requirements and are certified under the National Department of Transport and eNaTIS in South Africa.
• A full audit trail is created and archived for every digital certificate linked to the number plate (from Manufactured blanks to completed embossed registration plate). This allows for a comprehensive and indisputable "chain of evidence" for investigators and Law Enforcement agencies worldwide.
